All of these rules and guidelines are meant to reduce physical contact and maintain separation and give us the ability to state that effectively, there is no close contact which in the event of a case, allows us to have the team continue while the skater recovers or is quarantined.
The following information pertains to our off-ice conditioning program for the PeeWee level this season. With the Covid-19 guidelines in place we are unable to perform off-ice conditioning routinely and effectively without implementing a home-based program. We are asking ALL players at the PeeWee level to partake in this program. We realize it is on the honor system, but it’s a great way for the players to develop self-discipline and confidence from the comfort of their own home and take things at their own pace.
There are several documents attached:
Most of these will focus on some aspect of overall physical fitness. The Neutral Performance Protocol focuses on reaction time, making quick decisions and focusing on moving objects. This is the one segment that will require you to purchase 3-6 tennis balls. They will be used for learning to juggle and some simple wall exercises.
Outside of the schedule, all of the documents have had links embedded into them when you click on the exercise name that will direct you to YouTube videos that will show examples of each exercise. Please keep in mind that the focus of these exercises isn’t doing them as quickly as possible, but doing them correctly with proper form. None of them require any weights of any kind and are all “bodyweight” exercises to keep it easy on everyone.
Phase 1 will run for 4 weeks. As you open “Phase 1 Lower Body” for example, you will see a column that may, or may not, have a time listed (in seconds) which is the resting time between sets. For example, “Bulgarian Split Squats” require no rest between sets. Each player in week one will perform 10/side three times (3 x 10/side) consecutively. Hopefully, this all makes sense for everyone. When you go further down the sheet the “Split Squat Jumps” will be performed in three sets of 3/side with 60 seconds between each set.
We will be starting this on Monday, November 9th as a group and carry on. I would recommend printing out each document so the players can track their own progress. It would be helpful for them to have the form up on a tablet, phone, or computer as well (if available) for the first few times so they can click on the exercise to access the YouTube videos as they begin to learn the exercises.
We will communicate to all the players on the 9th that this is all being sent home to the parents and request that all of you positively reinforce your players for participating. We realize that this may be new for some and not so new for others, but the more positive we all are with our players as they get accustomed to this the better off we will all be. Please don’t get on them if they aren’t getting it done. As coaches, we will occasionally ask the players how it’s going and I’m sure the other players will help encourage them as well. Keep it positive and fun at home, please.
Thanks for your help with getting this information to your players and we know if everyone can participate it will pay huge dividends for them both on and off the ice!
